Telegram Passport - Safe or Not?

Telegram has introduced a "unified authorization method for services that require personal identification."  Through the platform, you can upload your ID, passport, and other various identification documents.  This can be used with other applications (like an ICO or financial apps) to verify your identity - kind of like KYC.

The big question is - can you trust Telegram to keep your personally identifiable information safe?  The information is supposed to be encrypted, but is their encryption protocol strong enough?  We will see.  I certainly don't want to be a member of the test case.  Do you?
